Chennai: IIT Madras is poised to achieve new heights in partnership with ISRO, declared its Director, Prof. Kamakodi, during the institution's 76th Republic Day celebrations.

While hoisting the national flag, Prof. Kamakodi highlighted IIT Madras' pivotal contributions to the nation's scientific and technological advancements.

He noted the institution's recent innovations, including the world's first 3D model of a child's brain, a breakthrough expected to advance neurological treatments. Additionally, the development of a cutting-edge ultrasound scanner is set to enhance sports injury management and precise surgical procedures, boosting athlete recovery.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Vellore CMC Hospital aims to assist patients with hand paralysis through robotic rehabilitation solutions.

Last year, IIT Madras achieved global recognition for 47 out of 455 licensed inventions. The institute's partnership with ISRO focuses on pioneering technologies for human settlement on the Moon and Mars. Research efforts include 3D-printed space structures, durable materials, temperature resilience, and advanced fuel development. A budget of ₹1.84 crore has been allocated for these projects.

The institute is also innovating a waterless concrete method and advancing artificial intelligence applications. To nurture the next generation of scientists and entrepreneurs, IIT Madras has launched the 'Swayam Plus' initiative, offering support for tech-driven startups.

Prof. Kamakodi expressed confidence in the institution's trajectory toward global scientific leadership, reaffirming its commitment to nation-building through innovation.
