Varanasi: Special Tamil language classes conducted in 50 secondary schools across Kashi under the initiative “Tamil Karkalaam - Let Us Learn Tamil” concluded successfully on Monday, officials said.

Organised under the aegis of the Ministry of Education and Banaras Hindu University (BHU), the programme aimed at strengthening the centuries-old cultural and educational ties between Kashi and Tamil Nadu. As part of the initiative, 14-day Tamil classes were held in selected schools across the district, drawing enthusiastic participation from hundreds of students.

A team of 50 teachers from Tamil Nadu, deputed by the district administration and the education department, imparted basic Tamil language instruction to students. The classes were conducted for two hours daily, with emphasis on conversational skills, common vocabulary, greetings and cultural familiarisation.

To enhance learning, activity-based booklets were distributed among students, enabling them to grasp the language through interactive exercises and practical usage. Classroom sessions were supplemented with conversations and cultural references to make the learning process engaging.

The visiting teachers received a traditional welcome at institutions such as Government Queen's Inter College and BHU Central Hindu School, where students greeted them with “Vanakkam” in Tamil.

District Inspector of Schools Bholendra Pratap Singh inspected the classes and said the initiative was an important step towards reviving the historic bond of knowledge, culture and civilisation between Tamil Nadu and Kashi.

Officials said the programme generated keen interest among students and was widely appreciated as a meaningful effort towards national integration and cultural exchange.
