Thiruvananthapuram: India is set to emerge as one of the top 10 performing nations in global sports, according to Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya.
Speaking at the inauguration of the upgraded SAI Golf Course in Kowdiar, Thiruvananthapuram, the minister highlighted India's growing commitment to fostering sports excellence.
Mandaviya emphasized the importance of nurturing talent for the 2036 Olympics, adding that sports can help build a healthier and wealthier society. He also stressed the role of the Khelo India initiative in developing athletes from the district level.
The event marked the launch of Kerala's first SAI National Golf Academy, featuring a nine-hole international-standard golf course, a state-of-the-art fitness center, and modern recreational facilities. The project, approved by the Ministry of Tourism in 2017, was completed with an allocation of ₹9.27 crore.
Mandaviya, who personally toured the upgraded facility, also honored international athletes from SAI Thiruvananthapuram.
The function was presided over by Suresh Gopi, Minister of State for Tourism, with key officials including Sarada Muraleedharan, Kerala's Chief Secretary, and Suman Billa, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, in attendance.
