Chennai: The Madras Export Processing Zone Special Economic Zone (MEPZ SEZ) has unveiled a Scholarship Drive for Women in Engineering, aiming to promote gender diversity in Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil Engineering.

This initiative seeks to address the lower female enrolment in these fields compared to IT and Computer Science.

Spearheaded by Thiru. Alex Paul Menon, IAS, Development Commissioner of MEPZ SEZ, the drive offers financial aid and skill development opportunities. Pinnacle Infotech Solutions has pledged to sponsor 100 scholarships worth ₹10,000 each for female B.Tech students in Tamil Nadu. Additionally, beneficiaries will receive AutoCAD training to enhance employability.

Alex Paul Menon highlighted the significance of gender balance in manufacturing, stating, "This scholarship is a step toward empowering women in core engineering fields, with support from the SEZ ecosystem."

Bimal Patwari, CEO of Pinnacle Infotech, emphasized the role of diversity, adding, "Women bring immense value to engineering and technology. This initiative encourages young women to contribute to the manufacturing sector."

MEPZ SEZ aims to expand the program to offer 100 additional scholarships in 2025, urging industry leaders to collaborate in fostering inclusivity in India's engineering education and manufacturing.
