Chennai: Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin announced that the number of Tamil Nadu students clearing the UPSC exams has risen since the introduction of the 'Naan Mudhalvan' scheme, which supports civil service aspirants with financial aid and training.
During the inauguration of a study hall for civil service exam preparation at the Anna Centenary Library in Kotturpuram, Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin highlighted the impact of the 'Naan Mudhalvan' scheme.
The event, organized by the Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation, also featured the launch of a skill training program for ex-servicemen.
Minister Udhayanidhi revealed that in the last two years, 30 lakh people have benefited from the scheme. In particular, a special incentive program for UPSC aspirants was introduced last year.
Under this initiative, 1,000 candidates are selected annually, each receiving ₹7,500 per month for 10 months to prepare for the preliminary exam. Additionally, those who clear the prelims are awarded ₹25,000.
Last year, 453 candidates who passed the prelims were given this support.
Prior to the scheme, only 36 students from Tamil Nadu cleared the UPSC exam each year. In 2023, the number rose to 47, which Minister Udhayanidhi attributed to the success of the 'Naan Mudhalvan' initiative.
