Chennai: The 'NEET' entrance exam for admission to undergraduate medical courses is to be held across the country today ( 5 May) with 24 lakh students across the country, including 1.50 lakh in Tamil Nadu, are appearing for the exam.
NEET National Eligibility and Entrance Test for All India Allotment seats in MPBS, - BDS, courses, Siddha, Ayurveda, Unani, Homeopathic courses and Veterinary courses in government and private medical colleges across the country Admission is conducted through examination.
Further, NEET has been made mandatory for B.Sc., Nursing courses in military colleges.
NEET is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Accordingly, the NEET exam for the academic year 2024-25 will be conducted in 13 languages including Tamil, English and Hindi across the country in 557 cities today.
24 lakh people across the country including 1.50 lakh students in Tamil Nadu are going to write this exam.
NEET exam will be held from 2:00 PM to 5:20 PM.
Preparation for NEET examination centers in various cities including Chennai took place yesterday. It has been informed that the result of the examination will be published on June 14.
Advice issued by National Examinations Agency for NEET candidates:
Students participating in the NEET examination must follow the procedures mentioned in the 'Hall Ticket'. Considering the traffic congestion and weather changes, it is necessary for the candidates to plan ahead to reach the examination centers.
Visit the examination centers before 1:30 PM. Students coming after that will not be allowed in the centres. Students without hall ticket and identity proof will not be allowed inside the examination centers.
Candidates will be tested through 'Metal Detector'.
What are the restrictions?
Paper, slips, pencil box, plastic pouch, calculator, scale, electronic pen, log table, health pant, shoulder bag, bracelet, mobile phone, microphone, bluetooth, earphone, belt, purse, watch, ornaments, Food items and water bottles cannot be carried.
Students may carry easily visible water bottles. Students are not allowed to go to the toilet for the first one hour and the last half hour after the examination starts.
Candidates wearing traditional, cultural and religious dress should reach the examination center by 12:30 PM.
Students are allowed to wear casual sandals, low height shoes; Do not come wearing 'shoes'. Do not leave the answer sheet before the end of the examination. The National Examinations Agency uses artificial intelligence technology to monitor the students who engage in malpractice in the exam hall. Students who engage in malpractice will be banned from taking the exam for the next three years. Also, criminal action will be taken.
NEET exam comprises of 200 questions in Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Botany, Zoology) with 50 questions in each. A question carries 4 marks for a total of 720 marks. 1 mark for wrong answer will be deducted on 'Negative' basis.
