New Delhi: The Government of India announced the recipients of the Padma Awards 2025, one of the nation's highest civilian honors, on the eve of Republic Day.

A total of 139 individuals were selected this year, recognizing their distinguished contributions across diverse fields, including art, science, public affairs, social work, medicine, trade, and industry.

The awards were presented annually in three categories:
Padma Vibhushan: For exceptional and distinguished service.
Padma Bhushan: For distinguished service of a high order.
Padma Shri: For distinguished service in any field.

The awards ceremony was scheduled to take place at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in March or April, where the President of India conferred the honors.
Breakdown of Awards for 2025
Padma Vibhushan: 7 recipients.
Padma Bhushan: 19 recipients.
Padma Shri: 113 recipients.

Among the honorees, 23 were women, 10 were from the Foreigners/NRI/PIO/OCI category, and 13 awards were posthumous.

Dr. Duvvur Nageshwar Reddy (Medicine, Telangana): Recognized for his exceptional contributions to gastroenterology.
Justice (Retd.) Jagdish Singh Khehar (Public Affairs, Chandigarh): Honored for his judicial service and leadership as Chief Justice of India.
Kumudini Rajnikant Lakhia (Art, Gujarat): Celebrated for her pioneering work in Indian classical dance.
Dr. L. Subramaniam (Art, Karnataka): Internationally renowned violinist and composer.
M. T. Vasudevan Nair (Posthumous) (Literature and Education, Kerala): Esteemed Malayalam writer and filmmaker.
Osamu Suzuki (Posthumous) (Trade and Industry, Japan): Instrumental in fostering Indo-Japanese industrial collaboration.
Sharda Sinha (Posthumous) (Art, Bihar): Renowned folk singer from Bihar.

Anant Nag (Art, Karnataka): Veteran actor in Indian cinema.
Jose Chacko Periappuram (Medicine, Kerala): Renowned cardiothoracic surgeon.
P. R. Sreejesh (Sports, Kerala): Former captain of the Indian hockey team.
Sadhvi Ritambhara (Social Work, Uttar Pradesh): Known for her philanthropic initiatives.
Shekhar Kapur (Art, Maharashtra): Acclaimed filmmaker and actor.
Shobana Chandrakumar (Art, Tamil Nadu): Celebrated Bharatanatyam dancer and actress.
Vinod Dham (Science & Engineering, USA): Father of the Pentium chip.

Padma Shri (113)The largest category, Padma Shri awards, celebrated a wide range of achievers, from artists and scientists to sportspersons and social workers.

Arijit Singh (Art, West Bengal): Renowned playback singer in Indian cinema.
R. Ashwin (Sports, Tamil Nadu): Indian cricketing legend and all-rounder.
Sethuraman Panchanathan (Science & Engineering, USA): Director of the U.S. National Science Foundation.
Jaspinder Narula (Art, Maharashtra): Versatile singer with contributions to Indian music.
Barry John (Art, NCT Delhi): Pioneer of theatre education in India.
Lakshmipathy Ramasubbaiyer (Journalism, Tamil Nadu): Veteran journalist and editor.
M. D. Srinivas (Science, Tamil Nadu): Renowned physicist and educator.
