Delhi: The Philippines has enacted a transformative amendment to its Medical Act, paving the way for foreign nationals, including Indian students, to practice medicine in the country.
Approved overwhelmingly in the House of Representatives (184-3-0), this reform replaces the 1959 Medical Act and introduces the Medical Education Council and the Professional Regulatory Board of Medicine to elevate academic standards and promote ethical practices.
This new law offers Indian students graduating from CHED-accredited colleges the opportunity to practice in the Philippines after completing their internships. Their qualifications will also align with Indian Medical Commission standards, ensuring seamless pathways to practice in India or globally.
Kadwin Pillai, Managing Director of Transworld Educare, hailed the reform as a milestone, emphasizing its potential to position the Philippines as Asia's premier hub for medical education. With English-based instruction, a US-aligned curriculum, and affordable fees, the country attracts approximately 2,000 Indian students annually.
The landmark legislation underscores the Philippines' vision to nurture global healthcare leaders while strengthening educational ties with India.
It not only empowers aspiring doctors but also addresses global health challenges, solidifying the Philippines as a leader in affordable, high-quality medical education.
