Chennai: Due to persistent rainfall, schools in 19 districts across Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, Villupuram, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Dindigul, and Ramanathapuram, will remain closed today (Dec. 12).

A low-pressure area has formed over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and the Equatorial Indian Ocean.

According to the Chennai Meteorological Department, this system has yet to intensify into a deep depression.

The department has issued warnings for heavy rainfall across several districts of Tamil Nadu for the next four days.

In Tirunelveli, holidays have been declared exclusively for primary schools (up to 5th standard). Additionally, educational institutions in Puducherry and Karaikal are also closed today due to the heavy rain alert.
