Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Examination Department has implemented a revised procedure for the distribution of answer sheet cover slips for public examinations, effective this year.

Previously, schools downloaded face slips for Class 10, Plus 1, and Plus 2 general examinations using a secure password provided by the department.

These slips were manually stitched to the answer sheets with thread. Given the large volume of slips—running into lakhs—district-level officials responsible for the task were compensated for their work.

From this year onward, the department will directly distribute face slips to the offices of the Assistant Directors of Examinations in each district, based on the number of students registered for the examinations. This change aims to enhance security and efficiency in the process.

Background and Security Concerns
The procedural revision comes in the wake of a malpractice incident in Madurai two years ago. A private school was found illegally downloading multiple copies of face slips, leading to a major controversy. Following extensive coverage by Dinamalar, the Crime Branch Criminal Investigation Department (CBCID) launched an investigation.

The probe resulted in the arrest of nine individuals, including education officers, students, and parents. The new system seeks to prevent similar incidents and uphold the integrity of the examination process.
