Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Government Employees Association launched a 24-hour dharna at 10:00 am at Ezhilagam, Chepauk, pressing for key demands, including the restoration of the old pension scheme. The protest will continue until 10:00 am today.

Led by the association's North and South Chennai district presidents, employees raised slogans highlighting their demands.

State treasurer Daniel Jaising stated that their demands include implementing the old pension scheme, clearing 21 months' unpaid arrears from the salary revision, and ensuring periodic payments for lump sum salary employees.

He criticized the DMK government for failing to honor its election promises, emphasizing the need to fill over five lakh vacant posts with fixed salaries.

Daniel also condemned the rising trend of outsourcing government jobs. If demands are unmet, the association plans to collaborate with 'Jacto-Geo' for a larger protest.
