Kovai: The Department of Agricultural Entomology at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) launched a 7-day training program on "Scientific Beekeeping" from November 28 to December 4, 2024.

Organized under the National Bee Board (NBB) scheme, the program brought together 25 farmers and beneficiaries from across Tamil Nadu.

Dr. Tamil Vendhan, Registrar of TNAU, inaugurated the event, highlighting the extraordinary capabilities of honeybees, including their remarkable memory, communication through dance, and the ability to build combs in just 35-40 days.

He emphasized the numerous benefits of beekeeping for individuals, farmers, and the nation.

In her speech, Dr. M. Shanthi, Director (CPPS), underscored the importance of apiculture in agricultural productivity and encouraged participants to consider beekeeping as a stress-relieving activity. She also noted the growing interest in beekeeping among rapid action forces and defense personnel.

Dr. V. Balasubramani, Controller of Examinations, urged participants to explore entrepreneurial opportunities in the field.

The training will cover various topics, including bee species, pasturage, pest management, honey extraction, and business prospects.

Dr. M. Murugan, Professor and Head of Agricultural Entomology, welcomed the participants and introduced the program objectives, while Dr. V. R. Saminathan delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the support from the National Bee Board.
