Chennai: Two IIT Madras professors were honored with the 'Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar: Vigyan Yuva Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar' award by President Droupadi Murmu on August 22, 2024, in Delhi.
Prof. Prabhu Rajagopal from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Prof. Radhakrishna Ganti from the Department of Electrical Engineering were recognized for their exceptional contributions to science and technology.
Prof. Rajagopal's work focuses on automated ultrasonic inspection and remote Non-destructive Evaluation (NDE) of structures, making significant strides in ultrasonics and robotics. He has guided numerous start-ups that are pioneering in these fields.
Prof. Ganti, known for his work in wireless and cellular systems, led the development of 5G radio systems at IIT Madras and is now working on 6G technologies. He has contributed extensively to global telecom standards, particularly for rural connectivity.
IIT Madras Director Prof. V. Kamakoti praised their contributions, highlighting their impact on technology of national importance. Both professors expressed their gratitude, emphasizing the support of their mentors, colleagues, and families.
Prof. Rajagopal noted his dedication to solving real-world problems, while Prof. Ganti hopes his work will inspire further research in wireless systems.
The award highlights their role in advancing indigenous technologies and innovation, contributing to India's technological growth.
