Chennai: Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has expanded its 'AI for All' initiative to include school teachers from Kindergarten to Class XII across India.

Offered through the SWAYAM Plus platform in collaboration with IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation, the courses are free and online, with certification available at a nominal fee through proctored exams.

The last date to register is October 10, 2025.

Alongside five existing courses—AI in Physics, AI in Chemistry, AI in Accounting, Cricket Analytics with AI, and AI/ML using Python—IIT Madras has introduced a new program, AI for Educators, specifically for K-12 teachers.

Each course runs between 25 and 45 hours and is designed to build AI skills across disciplines, from science and commerce to the arts.

Launching the new course on September 8, IIT Madras Director Prof. V. Kamakoti said, “Artificial intelligence is reshaping the future of learning, and K-12 teachers play a vital role in bringing this change into classrooms.”

Prof. R. Sarathi, Dean (Planning) and SWAYAM Plus Coordinator, added that no prior coding or AI background is required. “Basic digital literacy and enthusiasm to learn are sufficient. The courses are NCrF-aligned and employability-focused, featuring real datasets, hands-on activities, and case studies,” he said.

SWAYAM Plus, an initiative of IIT Madras under the Ministry of Education, currently hosts over 430 online courses across 15+ sectors. More than 3.7 lakh learners have registered on the platform to date.

AI for All Courses Open for Registration:

AI for Educators - For K-12 teachers and aspiring educators
AI in Physics - For UG/PG students and faculty
AI in Chemistry - For UG/PG students and faculty
AI in Accounting - For commerce/management learners
Cricket Analytics with AI - For students and sports enthusiasts
AI/ML using Python - Foundational program for learners across fields

In addition, IIT Madras recently hosted an Inclusive Education Roundtable on September 1, 2025, to explore inclusive pedagogical models and digital skilling for persons with disabilities (PwDs). Delegates also visited the Institute's Center of Excellence, where assistive technologies developed for PwDs were showcased by Prof. Srinivasa Chakravarthy.
