Kallakurichi: The Central Footwear Training Institute (CFTI) in Chennai's Guindy has opened admissions for various vocational courses aimed at preparing local youth for employment in the footwear industry, according to a press release issued by Kallakurichi District Collector Prashanth.
The initiative follows the upcoming establishment of a major footwear manufacturing facility by Pawsen at the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Ulundurpet, Kallakurichi district. With an investment of ₹2,302 crore, the unit is expected to create employment opportunities for over 20,000 people.
To qualify for jobs at the new facility, candidates are required to complete certified training in footwear-related courses. The CFTI, which operates under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India, will be conducting these courses.
Available programmes include the Diploma in Footwear Manufacturing and Design, Advanced Certificate Courses in Footwear Design and Product Development, and Footwear Manufacturing Technology, along with a Postgraduate Diploma in Footwear Technology.
The training will be conducted in English, and hostel facilities are available. Applicants must be below 35 years of age and should have completed Class 10, 12, a degree or diploma. Interested candidates from Kallakurichi district can collect application forms from the Collector's Office on July 31 and August 1. Filled-in forms must be submitted by August 1.
