Chennai: Anna University has introduced a revised curriculum for its affiliated engineering colleges from the current academic year, making it mandatory for students to learn an additional foreign language.
Students can choose from Japanese, German or Korean to enhance their global employability, the university said in a statement.
The Academic Planning Committee of the university recently approved the new curriculum designed by a committee of academicians, industry experts, scientists and alumni.
The revamped syllabus places emphasis on project development and offers special recognition and certificates for outstanding performance. Industry-related subjects will be introduced across two semesters, with modules such as “Re-engineering for Innovation” taught by industry experts to familiarise students with real-world practices.
Courses on emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, machine learning and data science, have been integrated along with project-based and hands-on learning components. A course on climate change and sustainability has also been added.
For the first time, physical education has been included in the engineering curriculum to promote fitness and sports skills among students.
Skill development subjects under the Tamil Nadu government's “I am the First” scheme have been incorporated, along with intensive training programmes for faculty members.
The university said these measures aim to improve employment opportunities and prepare graduates for global careers.
