Kolkata: West Bengal Governor C. V. Ananda Bose on Wednesday approved the appointment of Vice-Chancellors for several state universities, a senior Raj Bhavan official said.

Prof. Abu Taleb Khan has been appointed as VC of Biswa Bangla Biswavidyalaya, and Prof. Chandradipa Ghosh will head Sadhu Ramchand Murmu University, Jhargram. Prof. Ashis Bhattacharjee has been named VC of the University of Gour Banga, while Prof. Ashutosh Ghosh will take charge at the University of Calcutta.

Prof. Uday Bandyopadhyay has been appointed VC of Kazi Nazrul University, and Prof. Chiranjib Bhattacharjee will serve as VC of Jadavpur University, the official added.

Bose, who is also the Chancellor of all state-run universities, said the appointments take effect immediately.

Soon after the announcement, West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu stated that all appointees were the “first choice” of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

“In six more state government-aided universities, Vice-Chancellors of the Honorable Chief Minister's first choice have been appointed. I extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all of them,” Basu said in a post on X.

Basu and the Raj Bhavan had earlier been at odds over VC appointments following the expiry of several full-time tenures.
