New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the Scientific and Industrial Research Scheme on Skill Development and Human Resource Development with an outlay of Rs 2,277.39 crore for the 15th Finance Commission cycle (2021-22 to 2025-26).

The scheme will be implemented by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and will cover all R&D institutions, national laboratories, universities and institutions of national importance across the country.

According to the government, the initiative aims to provide a comprehensive platform for young researchers aspiring to work in universities, educational institutions, industrial research and development laboratories. The programme will be mentored by eminent scientists and professors and will focus on strengthening research capacity in science, technology, engineering, medicine and mathematics (STEMM).
