Ahmedabad: CEPT University students Mohit Mungre and Saumitra Nachane from the Faculty of Technology secured the top two positions in the National Students Competition on 'Learning from Failures in Plumbing Systems 2024,' organized by the Indian Plumbing Association (IPA).

They won cash prizes of Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000, respectively.

The competition attracted entries from over 50 student chapters nationwide, requiring civil engineering students to identify plumbing issues in local residential buildings and propose practical, code-compliant solutions.

Mohit and Saumitra stood out among 40 entries, addressing plumbing challenges in residential buildings in Bopal and Paldi. Their projects tackled problems such as faulty installation, drainage pipe joints, and inaccessible manholes, offering solutions that adhered to regulatory guidelines.

Both winners will be awarded their trophies and cash prizes on October 19, 2024, at a ceremony by the IPA Ahmedabad Chapter. CEPT had five entries in total, with guidance from mentors Dr. Dipsha Shah and Prof. Dipen Mehta.

This is the first time IPA has held this competition, though CEPT students have consistently excelled in previous IPA contests, including essay writing and poster-making challenges.
