Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for Social Justice hostels to be built at eight locations across the state at a cost of ₹61.44 crore.

The hostels will come up at Queen Mary's College (Chennai), Chengalpattu, Nemmeli, Thanjavur, Orathanadu, Madurai Shantamangalam, Ooty in Nilgiris district, and two at Thiruvaiyar.

He also inaugurated completed infrastructure projects worth ₹97 crore, including additional classrooms and a compound wall at the Government Kallar Primary School, V. Perumalpatti, Madurai district (₹1.77 crore), a student hostel at Meensurutti, Ariyalur district (₹2.17 crore), and horse stables on the premises of the old Police Commissioner's office at Egmore, Chennai (₹3.14 crore).

Further, the Chief Minister inaugurated the new Villupuram Zone Fire Office and Tirupattur Fire Station. He also laid the foundation stone for a State Training Institute for the Fire Department at Kalavakkam, Chengalpattu district (₹21.8 crore), 342 police quarters at Chakkarakottai, Ramanathapuram district (₹55.6 crore), and new police stations at Otteri (Chengalpattu) and Nachiyarkovil (Thanjavur).

On the occasion, Stalin handed over appointment orders to 23 graduate and 18 intermediate teachers recruited for government Kallar schools through the Teachers Recruitment Board, and to 13 candidates selected through the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission for the post of Assistant Director in the Tamil Development Department.
