Chennai: The Joint Action Committee of the Faculty and Officers Association at Chennai University held a striking demonstration, calling for the immediate appointment of a Vice-Chancellor.

The protesters also demanded action on a 2014 court order to form a committee to investigate the illegal appointment of 22 professors.

They urged these professors to relinquish their key positions within the university.

The demonstrators emphasized the need to disburse seven years of pending arrears, as recommended by the Seventh Pay Commission.

They also called for promotions to follow standard procedures and urged the university to provide cash benefits to retirees from 2018.

Additionally, they pressed for the prompt filling of 347 vacant professorships and the swift appointment of a Vice-Chancellor.
