New Delhi: The University of Delhi has decided to accept GATE scores for admission to its MTech programme in Microwave and Communication Engineering, marking the first time the score will be used for admission to a postgraduate course in the varsity.

According to a university notification, the move follows approval for the course from the All India Council for Technical Education.

Haneet Gandhi, dean of admissions at DU, said the university had earlier used Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) scores for PhD admissions, but this would be the first time they are being considered for a postgraduate programme.

"We will use the GATE score first, but if the seats do not get filled, then we will also use CUET-PG scores for the next round," Gandhi said.

He added that while the course itself is not new, GATE scores are being accepted from this academic session following AICTE approval.

As per the eligibility criteria, candidates should hold a BTech, BE, MSc or equivalent degree in relevant disciplines such as Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or Radio Physics and Electronics Engineering from a recognised institution.

The notification stated that the programme has 30 seats, including 13 unreserved, eight for OBC candidates, four for SC, two for ST and three for EWS candidates.

The university said candidates with valid GATE scores would be given first preference based on merit in their respective categories. Vacant seats, if any, would subsequently be filled through CUET-PG 2026-27 merit.

DU also clarified that admissions to the MTech programme would be conducted through a separate portal and not through the CSAS-PG portal.
