Villupuram: With upgrading of several schools, opening of new colleges and creation of necessary infrastructures, the Higher Education Minster, K. Ponmudy said, an educational revolution is taking place in the state.
Speaking at a function in Pidagam to present educational aid to meritorious students, he gave away over laptops worth Rs. 10 lakhs to 31 students who had scored over 479 marks in the recent X standard public examinations (Tamil medium). He said under the Education for All scheme, new classrooms, libraries and laboratories were being built, and the school dropouts were identified and made to continue education.
Free textbooks, notebooks, scholarships, free bus passes were given and hostel accommodation was provided to the poor students hailing from the rural areas, he said.
Mr. Ponmudy said education and agriculture were the two decisive factors for growth and Tamil Nadu was doing extremely well in both the spheres.
In the last three years, there has been significant improvement in the results of both SSLC and Plus Two examinations in the District of Villupuram. In comparison to the previous year the pass percentage had gone up considerably.
In the entire district, 35 middle schools were elevated as high schools and 24 high schools elevated as higher secondary schools, in the last three years.
He said, all the 1,104 panchayats in the district would be covered under the scheme by the end of the current financial year.
