Coimbatore: Five boys, all below the age of 17, were on Monday sentenced to three years of imprisonment by a juvenile court here in connection with an attempt to murder case dating back to 2024, police said.
According to investigators, a group of eight boys allegedly attacked a 16-year-old with weapons including a sickle and a knife at Kamaraj Colony in Peelamedu-Udayampalayam area last year, leaving him seriously injured.
Following investigations, Peelamedu police arrested five minors and sent them to a juvenile reform facility. A case under attempt to murder and other relevant sections was registered in the Juvenile Justice Board.
After hearing the case, Juvenile Magistrate Arun Kumar awarded three-year imprisonment to each of the five boys, officials added.
