Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Postal Circle has invited applications from students of Classes 6 to 9 for the Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana, a philately scholarship scheme aimed at promoting the hobby of stamp collection among schoolchildren.

Launched by the Department of Posts in 2017, the scholarship programme—Scholarship for Promotion of Aptitude & Research in Stamps as a Hobby (SPARSH)—has successfully entered its eighth year.

Students with a strong academic record and an active interest in philately are eligible to apply. Each selected student will receive a scholarship of ₹6,000 per annum.

To qualify, applicants must be enrolled in a recognized school in India and be members of their school's Philately Club. If no such club exists, having a Philately Deposit Account with India Post will suffice. A minimum of 60% marks in the last annual exam is required, with a 5% relaxation for SC/ST candidates.

The selection process involves two levels: a written quiz on September 20 at the regional level, followed by submission of a philately project by shortlisted candidates. The quiz will consist of 50 MCQs covering subjects such as history, science, culture, geography, sports, personalities, and philately.

The philately project must not exceed 500 words and may include up to 16 stamps across 4-5 pages.
