Tiruchi: With a requirement of 11.5 lakh teachers in the future for the country, the employment scope for B.Ed candidates is going up.

Quoting an approximate projection made by the University Grants Commission, before 2015 there would be a requirement of 11.5 lakh teachers in the country, the Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Teachers’ Education University, T. Padmanaban, said.
Inaugurating the first year classes of the M.A.M. College of Education, Dr. Padmanaban said that there will be 2.5 lakh vacancies for B.Ed. qualified candidates in Tamil Nadu alone by that time.

As several colleges offer the courses the opportunities for pursuing B.Ed. were now high, unlike the past. The community expects a lot from teachers, said Dr. Padmanaban . It was hence imperative for teachers to adapt to changes, adopt individual approach for the progress of all students under their care.

Teachers ought to continuously strive for excellence and success of the students, inculcating among the latter a zeal for hard work, patriotism and values.
The Vice-chancellor suggested to the college to take steps to introduce M.Ed., M. Phil and Ph.D. in Education.

Emphasize that teaching was a noble profession, the former Vice-Chancellor of University of Madras, S. Sathikh, who presided over, said that those who have achieved a growth in their career were bound to remember the motivation they received and inspiration they drew from their teachers.

For teachers, it was vital to make their inspiring presence felt in the entire class.
They ought to accord a higher thrust to the academic progress of back-benchers, he insisted.
