Chennai: In a unique tribute to Tamil language and culture, V.G.K. Builders has installed a road-side hoarding in Tambaram displaying the days of the Tamil month of Chithirai in ancient Tamil script, drawing attention and appreciation from passersby.
Erected on the Mudichur-Tambaram-Velachery Main Road, near the road over bridge, the calendar-style hoarding was unveiled to coincide with the Tamil New Year, Visuvasuva. The display features all 30 days of April written in traditional Tamil characters, reviving interest in a script many consider sacred but seldom seen in public spaces.
The hoarding also bears a message in Tamil urging people to preserve and propagate the language: “The Tamil Alphabet is an integral part of our Tamil Language, that makes it so special. This Tamil Alphabet has to be taken to every household so that it is learnt by all for the coming generations.”
The initiative has struck a chord with residents and commuters. Selvi Ilavarasan, a homemaker and mother of two, praised the effort, saying, “I wholeheartedly welcome this concept. While English is necessary for communication, such displays in Tamil are much needed, especially now.”
Known for their presence in Chennai's southern suburbs, V.G.K. Builders has earned a reputation for delivering quality residential projects. The firm said the hoarding was meant to celebrate Tamil heritage and encourage people, especially the younger generation, to engage with their linguistic roots.
