Chennai: The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) and IDBI Bank have inaugurated a new cybersecurity lab, the 'IDBI - IITM Secure Systems Lab' (I2SSL).
The lab aims to develop and deploy advanced security solutions for critical sectors including healthcare, fintech, and aerospace.
Inaugurated by Rakesh Sharma, MD & CEO of IDBI Bank, the lab will focus on creating market-ready cybersecurity innovations, particularly for mobile technologies. Key attendees included Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT-M, and other senior officials from both organizations.
The lab addresses the increasing cyber threats facing sectors like banking, finance, and telecommunications. It will conduct experimental evaluations, vulnerability research, and develop hardening guidelines to enhance real-time cybersecurity management.
Sharma highlighted IDBI Bank's commitment to combating cyber threats and ensuring data security. Prof. Kamakoti emphasized the need for proactive measures against the evolving threat landscape in the finance sector.
The I2SSL will work on Secure Systems Engineering, designing solutions from theoretical to practical applications. It will also foster cybersecurity awareness among students through online programs, capture the flags (CTFs), hackathons, and projects.
Future projects include designing hardware firewalls, secure point-of-sale devices, and mobile banking systems.
Additionally, the lab will develop tools for automated security evaluation and hardware accelerators for cryptography, meeting high standards and providing resistance to side-channel attacks.
