Chennai: Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has introduced a new Bachelor of Science (BS) degree programme in Astronomy and Space Technology, the institute said.

The programme is open to students who have completed their Plus Two education, IIT Madras announced.

Speaking on the occasion, IIT Madras Director V Kamakoti said astronomy and space technology are rapidly expanding fields with growing demand for skilled professionals. The new course has been launched to create trained manpower capable of meeting industry and research requirements, he said.

“The BS programme in Astronomy and Space Technology aims to ensure strong employment prospects for students entering these emerging domains. Graduates of this course will have opportunities in leading sectors related to space science, research and advanced technology,” Kamakoti said.

The institute said the programme is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in theoretical concepts and practical applications relevant to the space and astronomy sectors.
