Chennai: Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has opened admissions for its next batch of BS degree programs in Data Science and Applications and in Electronic Systems. The deadline to apply is 20th May 2025.
These undergraduate programs are globally accessible, designed for both students and working professionals, and do not require a Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) score for enrollment.
The programs have attracted over 38,000 active learners, including career switchers, international students, and professionals. Notably, 25% of the learners are women, and 20% are over the age of 30, reflecting the inclusive and flexible design of the curriculum.

Candidates who have cleared JEE Main are eligible for direct admission. Others can qualify by completing a four-week online preparatory module and passing an in-person qualifier exam. Applications can be submitted at https://study.iitm.ac.in.

Highlighting the initiative, IIT Madras Director Prof. V. Kamakoti said, “We are democratizing IIT-quality education. These BS programs empower learners from across India and the world. The recent GATE 2025 results, where BS Data Science students secured AIR 1, 7, and 10, prove the program's academic rigour.”

Open to students from all streams, the Data Science program requires Class 10-level Math and English, while the Electronic Systems program requires Physics and Math at the higher secondary level.

Prof. Andrew Thangaraj, Coordinator of the BS program, added, “We are breaking geographic, economic, and academic barriers. Top-performing students also have the option to upgrade to M.Tech or MS programs at IIT Madras.”

Key features include no age limit, no seat cap, multiple entry-exit points, financial support, and IIT Madras alumni status upon graduation.
