Houston: Indian-American Sonal Bhuchar has been appointed to OneStar National Service Commission in Texas that promotes volunteerism and oversees administration of the AmeriCorps programmes in the US state.

Bhuchar, a professional physiotherapist at Therapeutic Concepts and office manager at Sugar Land Med-Ped was appointed to the OneStar National Services Commission by the Texas Governor, Greg Abbott, with her term lasting up to March 15, 2018.

Originally from Mumbai in India, Bhuchar got her bachelor's degree in physical therapy from Bombay University.

She currently serves as a board of member in leadership positions for Child Advocates of Fort Bend, chairman for the Literacy Council of Fort Bend, board member for Fort Bend Cares and board member for the City of Sugar Land PARCS.

She has formerly served as a board of trustee and board president for the Fort Bend Independent School District.

The Indian-American physiotherapist also ran for the District 26 Texas state representative seat in 2012, but was not elected.

Along with Bhuchar, Abbott appointed Ronnie Hagerty as the chairman, Lisa Lucero as vice chairman along with Laura Dixon, Roger O'Dell, Annette Juba, Kate Williamson, James Senegal and Kirk Beckert as members of the Commission.
