Puducherry: The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) has launched a series of initiatives across Puducherry under the “Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan” (SNSPA), recently unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to promote women's health and family well-being.
As part of the campaign, awareness programmes were organised at Kasturba College for Women in Villianur, covering over 100 participants. Sessions highlighted women's wellness, stress management, preventive care including gynecological cancer awareness and HPV vaccination, safe dietary habits under the Eat Right campaign, and the importance of safe blood and organ donation.
A mega health camp was conducted by JIPMER's Rural Health Centre at Pillayar Kuppam, featuring 15 stalls dedicated to women's healthcare. Services included anemia screening, blood pressure and BMI checks, cancer awareness, nutritional counselling and lifestyle guidance. Women received personalised consultations and educational material.
At JIPMER's Urban Health Centre, Kurusukuppam, the campaign reached students of Deepsthal School with activities such as anemia screening, nutrition-focused talks and menstrual hygiene awareness. Similar health melas and awareness sessions are being held by JIPMER centres in Karaikal and Yanam.
Upcoming major health camps are scheduled at Ayandur village in Villupuram district on September 23, Hindusthan Glass Factory at Thondamantham on September 25, exclusively for industrial women workers, and Dhadhankuppam village near Gingee on September 26.
Officials said the drive combines screenings, preventive care and digital health facilitation, aiming to empower women and strengthen families.
