Chennai: Naam Tamizhar Katchi Chief Seeman has alleged that Madurai Kamaraj University is facing a severe financial crisis and risks closure due to pending dues from the Tamil Nadu government.

In a statement, Seeman said the state government owes the university over ₹300 crore, leading to a major economic setback. “If the irregularities in appointments were the cause, why did the government fail to prevent them?” he asked, adding that allowing an institution named after Kamaraj, who championed education, to decline is “condemnable.”

He further pointed out that four syndicate member posts have remained vacant for 15 years, while temporary staff are handling teaching duties without proper pay.

Seeman also criticised the ongoing tussle between the state government and the Governor, claiming that more than 10 universities in Tamil Nadu currently lack vice-chancellors, which has disrupted higher education administration.

He said it was “shameful” for the government to claim Tamil Nadu leads in education while universities struggle with financial and administrative instability.
