Chennai: Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) Secretary S. Krishnan on Thursday launched 'Param Shakti', an indigenously developed 3.1 petaflop PARAM RUDRA supercomputing facility, at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras).
Developed and implemented by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM), the system has been fully built in India using indigenous RUDRA servers and open-source software. The facility strengthens India's self-reliance in high-performance computing and supports advanced research across disciplines.
Krishnan said the system would enable researchers to solve complex scientific and engineering problems faster and at scale, enhancing India's global competitiveness. He added that with 37 supercomputers already deployed nationwide, the NSM is significantly strengthening the country's research and innovation ecosystem.
The facility is expected to boost research in areas such as aerospace, materials science, climate modelling, drug discovery and advanced manufacturing.
