Thane: The civic education department has warned of action against schools in Thane if they are found violating norms by teaching Hindi as a third language in primary classes.
Thane City Education Officer Kamalakant Mhetre clarified that the rule mandating Marathi language instruction applies only to schools affiliated with the Maharashtra State Board and not to those following the CBSE curriculum.
A delegation from the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) met with Mhetre, alleging that some schools in the city continued to teach Hindi in the primary section, despite the government withdrawing the earlier circular on Hindi language instruction.
“We will issue notices to schools if they are violating rules and teaching Hindi in primary classes,” Mhetre said.
