Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a speech at the 38th Convocation Ceremony of Bharathidasan University in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. During the event, he congratulated the graduating students, their teachers, and parents. The Prime Minister highlighted the unique formation of Bharathidasan University, where existing prestigious colleges were brought together to establish a strong foundation.Emphasizing the historical importance of education in Indian civilization, PM Modi referenced ancient universities like Nalanda and Takshila, as well as others in Kanchipuram, Gangaikonda Cholapuram, and Madurai. He drew parallels between the traditional concept of convocation and the Tamil Sangamam, where poets and intellectuals presented their work for societal recognition.PM Modi spoke about the pivotal role universities play in shaping the nation and defending its knowledge system during challenging times. He cited examples of leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, and Sir Annamalai Chettiar, who founded universities that played significant roles in the freedom struggle.Encouraging deep reflection on the purpose of education, the Prime Minister quoted Rabindranath Tagore, highlighting the importance of living in harmony with existence. He urged graduates to contribute to creating a developed India by 2047 and expressed confidence in the youth's ability to make this period historically significant.PM Modi commended Indian youth for their achievements, such as contributing to vaccine development, space exploration (Chandrayaan), and an increase in patents. He urged students to leverage the new opportunities available in various sectors and contribute to the nation's progress.Highlighting the government's efforts to match the speed and scale of student achievements, PM Modi mentioned the growth in airports, port capacity, highway construction, startups, and international trade deals. He encouraged students to capitalize on the current positive environment and take the country to new heights.As the convocation marked the end of the university journey for many students, the Prime Minister emphasized the continuous nature of learning in life. He stressed the importance of proactive learning, including unlearning, reskilling, and upskilling, to adapt to a rapidly changing world. Governor of Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister, Vice Chancellor, and Pro-Chancellor were also present at the ceremony.
