Puducherry: Pondicherry University(PU) has made notable progress in the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings, a significant achievement following its recent NAAC A+ accreditation.

The Central University, established in 1985 and headquartered in Kalapet, Puducherry, has jurisdiction over 59 affiliated colleges across Karaikal, Mahe, Yanam, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. With over 10,000 students enrolled across disciplines including medicine, engineering, and arts and sciences, the university is increasingly making its presence felt globally.

In the latest THE Impact Rankings, which assess universities on their contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Pondicherry University improved its performance from last year. It has been placed in the 601-800 bracket, with its score rising from 64.5-69.8 to 65.6-70.2.

Notable highlights include a 101-200 rank under SDG 15 (Life on Land), 301-400 for SDG 1 (No Poverty), and 401-600 for SDG 5 (Gender Equality).

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Prakash Babu said the university has shown “marked improvement in all parameters,” adding that it now ranks 545th globally for sustainability, international collaborations, and citations per faculty. “These results reflect the collective efforts of our faculty, researchers, and students,” he noted.

Additionally, the university was ranked 820th globally and 29th in India in the QS World University Rankings, underscoring its growing global academic reputation.
