Puducherry: In line with the National Education Policy, the Department of History at Pondicherry University has launched a Summer Internship Programme for second-year students of B.A. (Hons.) History and ITEP-B.Ed (History). The initiative is being implemented in collaboration with four reputed academic institutions through formal Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs).

The partner institutions include the French Institute of Pondicherry (IFP), Sri Aurobindo Centre for Advanced Research (SACAR), Pondicherry, the C.P. Ramaswamy Aiyar Foundation (CPRAF), and the Sharma Centre for Heritage Education (SCHE), Chennai.

As part of the programme, 35 students have been selected to undergo a six-week internship. The curriculum includes hands-on training in archaeological exploration, prehistoric stone tool making, photogrammetry, 3D image processing, numismatics, palm-leaf manuscript preservation, research methodology, temple architecture, indigenous plant identification, and biodiversity conservation.

The internship was inaugurated on May 15 in both Chennai and Puducherry. Students will initially participate in a two-week residential training at their assigned centres, followed by two weeks of guided assignments to be completed during the summer vacation.

Upon completion, students are expected to submit a detailed internship report, which will be jointly evaluated by the host institutions and the Department of History for final grading. (ANI)
