Puducherry: A poor student from a Puducherry government school, who secured a medical seat under the state's special reservation, is facing hardship as he is unable to afford the additional college fees.
Rajaguru, son of Ayyanar and Anjalai of Karikalambakkam, cleared the NEET examination with 187 marks and was allotted a seat in a private medical college under the 10 percent quota for government school students.
While the Puducherry government will bear the tuition fee of Rs 4 lakh, the student still requires at least Rs 2 lakh to meet expenses towards books, clinical fees, uniforms, transport, hostel, and coaching.
His family's circumstances have compounded the challenge. Rajaguru lost his mother, while his father Ayyanar is physically disabled and bedridden, with no source of income. The student is currently being looked after by his grandmother.
Moved by his plight, the CENTAC Student Parents' Association has provided him with a medical uniform and assured him of support. Association president Narayanasamy appealed to philanthropists and volunteers to extend help so that the student does not miss his dream of becoming a doctor.
Contributions may be extended directly to the student.
He can be contacted at 90430-26773.
