Raipur: Six persons, including a few candidates, were arrested for allegedly attempting to cheat in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) examination in the Chhattisgarh capital here, police said on Sunday.

Eight mobile phones, four Bluetooth-enabled devices, three Bluetooth earpieces and other electronic gadgets were recovered from the accused, an official said. Some of those arrested were appearing for the exam and allegedly transmitted questions by reading them out, while accomplices outside searched for answers and relayed them back.

Acting on a tip-off, police kept surveillance around the examination centre under DD Nagar police station limits and noticed suspicious movement of individuals carrying electronic devices. During interrogation, the accused revealed the involvement of candidates inside the centre, following which concealed Bluetooth devices were recovered, the official said.

The accused, all residents of Haryana, have been booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act. Further investigation is underway.
