Chennai: As many as 396 teachers were honoured with the Dr Radhakrishnan awards on the occasion of Teachers' Day, celebrated at the Anna Centenary Library here, with Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin announcing that a statue of the late President would be installed in Tiruvallur.
At the function held on Friday, Udhayanidhi also distributed appointment orders to 2,810 graduate teachers. Lauding the teaching community, he said, “Teachers who produce doctors, engineers, politicians and others have the responsibility of creating an intelligent society. For the well-being of students, they should also be encouraged to play.”
School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, speaking at the event, congratulated the awardees and said Chief Minister M K Stalin would take a favourable decision on the Teachers' Eligibility Test (TET), which he said was currently causing concern among teachers.
Ministers K N Nehru, Ma Subramanian, Chennai Mayor R Priya, School Education Secretary K Chandramohan, Director of School Education S Kannappan, Primary Education Director Naresh, and Private Schools Director Kuppusamy were among those present.
