Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has leased 2.32 hectares of land for the construction of a permanent campus of the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), Hyderabad, to promote quality education in English and foreign languages.

The land, located in Chakauli village of Pargana Bijnor in Sarojini Nagar tehsil of Lucknow district, has been given on lease at Re 1 per year, an official statement said.

The permanent campus will offer regular programmes like BA (Hons) English, MA English, MA Linguistics, MA English Literature, Post Graduate Diploma in the Teaching of English (PGDTE) and PhD, along with part-time courses in French, German, Russian and Spanish.

Currently, the university operates from a temporary complex on Kanpur Road in Lucknow.

At the land transfer ceremony on Tuesday, Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay said the state government is committed to providing youth with linguistic education of global standards.

He expressed confidence that the campus will enhance the quality of education and facilities.

EFLU Vice Chancellor Prof N Nagaraju thanked the state government, calling the land transfer a historic step towards developing the Lucknow campus into a leading centre for linguistic education and research.
