Indians in the United States continue to celebrate Vinayakar Chaturthi with devotion and unity. In Elkridge, Maryland, residents of Morris Place gathered at the end of August for a week-long festival celebrating Lord Ganesha. Vinayakar Chaturthi is considered a sacred day for worshiping and glorifying Lord Ganesha. On this day, idols of the deity are installed in homes, special pujas are performed with devotion, and prayers are offered with great reverence. Hindu devotees believe that through these rituals, they receive blessings and the fulfillment of their wishes.

In the neighborhood, the backyard of a house was beautifully decorated and transformed into a temple, where a large statue of Lord Ganesha was installed. Each evening, families dressed in traditional attire gathered for worship. Women sang devotional songs using microphones and speakers, while the younger generation participated with enthusiasm.

To ensure active participation of today's younger generation, games and sports were organized for the youth before the evening prayers. Children took part in cultural programs, art displays, and puzzle activities. These events helped nurture their individual talents, connect them to Indian traditions, and encouraged them to attend the prayers with eagerness every evening. This year, the five-day festival drew more than 150 residents. For many second-generation Indian-American children, the celebration served as a meaningful bridge to their cultural roots.

In true potluck style, devotees prepared homemade dishes and shared them with everyone. This strengthened community bonding and showcased the spirit of celebrating diverse cultures in America.

On the final day, observed as Ananta Chaturdashi, the Ganesha idol was taken in a decorated chariot procession and immersed in a large water tank as part of the Visarjan ritual. Elders, youth, and children, along with residents from different national backgrounds, joined together, dancing and singing joyfully for many hours, as the procession moved from the garage temple to the immersion site. The event created unforgettable memories for all.

This festival has been consistently organized for the past seven years, with decorations and activities improving year after year. The organizers received heartfelt appreciation from the community, and their tireless dedication deeply impressed everyone.
