new delhi: a growing number of indian students working part-time jobs in the us are resigning following the stricter immigration policies introduced by president trump.since taking office, trump has enforced stringent immigration rules, impacting international students on f-1 visas. these students are legally allowed to work up to 20 hours per week on college campuses. however, many indian students, facing financial challenges, have been working in various part-time roles at restaurants, gas stations, and retail stores to meet their basic needs.the recent tightening of rules has forced many students to quit these jobs. while crucial for their livelihood, students express concerns over jeopardizing their futures. many have come to the us on loans and fear potential visa cancellations or deportation.arjun, a student in illinois, shared, "i worked part-time on campus to cover my expenses, earning about rs. 600 a day. it was enough, but after the announcement of the tighter rules, i resigned. i came here with a loan of approximately 42.5 lakhs."neha, another student, added, "with workplace checks now expected, my friends and i decided to quit. it was a tough decision, but we don't want to risk deportation or visa cancellation. our parents have made significant sacrifices to send us here."students are now planning to re-evaluate their work situations but will focus on saving money and seeking financial support from family members in the interim. many are struggling with the added pressure of financial strain caused by the new regulations.
