AIIMS Medical College Madurai to begin operations from Pongal 2026

madurai: the all india institute of medical sciences (aiims) medical college, madurai, is set to commence operations by pongal in january 2026, according to aiims administrative officer anumantharao.construction of the aiims campus began in march 2024 and is progressing in two phases. the project includes hospital blocks, academic buildings, hostels, staff quarters, canteen, and sports facilities, covering an area of over 2.18 lakh square metres. the estimated cost of the project is ₹2,021.51 crore, with nearly 50 per cent of the work completed so far.speaking at a review meeting chaired by aiims chairman prashanth lavania at the thoppur campus on friday, anumantharao confirmed that aiims madurai has already completed four years of student admissions, with classes currently held at the temporary campus in ramanathapuram.he added that the hospital is expected to be operational by 2027 and that monthly updates, including construction photographs, will be shared on aiims madurai's official social media channels.visual representations of the completed campus have recently been released on the institution's official x (formerly twitter) page.
