BIS launches BIS Corner and Students Chapter at NIT Tiruchirappalli
tiruchirappalli: the bureau of indian standards (bis), under the ministry of consumer affairs, food and public distribution, on thursday inaugurated a bis corner and bis students' chapter at the national institute of technology (nit) tiruchirappalli.the initiatives, set up by bis's coimbatore branch, were launched by bis director general pramod kumar tiwari in the presence of senior officials from the standards body and nit trichy.the bis corner, located in the central library, will serve as a hub for information on standards, offering access to indian standards, handbooks and technical literature. the students' chapter will provide a platform for faculty mentors and students to engage with bis through exposure visits, projects, research activities and interactions with industry experts.speaking at the event, tiwari stressed the importance of exposing young engineers to the “invisible foundations” of standards that underpin trust, competitiveness and safety across sectors. he urged students to participate in technical committees, contribute to research in standardisation and align innovations with global benchmarks.nit trichy director dr. g. aghila said the partnership would enrich academic pursuits on campus. dr. meenakshi ganesan, deputy director general (south), bis, noted that the students' chapter would act as a bridge between academia and the standardisation community.the collaboration follows an mou signed in november 2022. nit trichy has since created 14 departmental student chapters, which were inaugurated on thursday. the event also featured competitions such as quizzes and reel-making, with winners awarded cash prizes and certificates.
