new delhi: the centre has decided to include 'operation sindoor'—a recent cross-border military operation by the indian army—into the school curriculum, the national council of educational research and training (ncert) has confirmed.the operation, conducted on may 7, saw the indian army carry out a surprise attack across the border targeting multiple terrorist camps in pakistan. according to official sources, nine terrorist camps were destroyed and over 100 militants were neutralised during the operation.the offensive was launched in retaliation to the april 22 terror attack in pahalgam, jammu and kashmir, which claimed the lives of several civilians, including husbands of hindu women. the mission was named 'operation sindoor' to symbolise their sacrifice and resilience, with 'sindoor' referring to the traditional forehead mark worn by married hindu women.officials said the move to incorporate the operation into the curriculum is aimed at instilling patriotism among students and making them aware of the indian army's role in national security.the ncert plans to divide the syllabus into two levels—one for students of classes 3 to 8, and another for classes 9 to 12. both will highlight the indian army's achievements and strategic capabilities.inaddition, the revised curriculum will include significant milestones in india's space programme, including missions like chandrayaan, aditya-l1, and astronaut captain subhanshu shukla's recent visit to the international space station.
