Chennai coaching centre raided for JEE exam training scam; documents worth ₹7.5 lakh seized

chennai: the central crime branch (ccb) police on saturday conducted raids at fitjee, a private coaching centre in chennai, for allegedly defrauding students of several crores of rupees under the pretext of offering quality coaching for the joint entrance examination (jee).the raid, carried out at bidjee's centres in kilpauk and kk nagar, as well as the residences of its tamil nadu regional head ankur jain, led to the seizure of 22 cheques worth ₹7.5 lakh, 195 student id cards, 125 refund request letters from parents, and over 100 documents reportedly linked to financial irregularities.according to officials, fitjee had enrolled hundreds of students, promising comprehensive coaching for the jee main and advanced exams conducted by the national testing agency (nta). however, parents and students allege that the institute failed to provide proper instruction and abruptly shut down operations after collecting substantial fees.more than 100 complaints have been filed with the chennai city police commissioner, prompting commissioner sandeep rai rathore to direct the ccb to initiate a probe. deputy commissioner geetanjali and assistant commissioner gayathri are leading three special teams in the ongoing investigation.preliminary findings indicate that the institute also collected refundable security deposits from students, which were never returned.police have urged additional victims to contact the ccb office at the chennai commissionerate in vepery to register their complaints. further investigation is underway.
