More students from Tirunelveli qualify for NMMMS

tirunelveli: as many as 508 students from tirunelveli district have qualified in the national means-cum-merit scholarship scheme (nmmss) aptitude test this year—the highest number from any district in tamil nadu—reflecting the region's strong performance in supporting students from economically weaker backgrounds.the centrally-sponsored scheme aims to provide financial support to meritorious students from economically weaker sections, enabling them to pursue secondary and higher secondary education. successful candidates receive an annual scholarship of ₹12,000 from classes 9 to 12.as part of the scheme, a total of one lakh scholarships are awarded every year across india, with tamil nadu allotted 6,659 slots.this year, 508 students from tirunelveli district were selected, marking the highest number of qualifiers from a single district in the state.according to officials, the achievement follows sustained efforts by the district education department, led by chief educational officer sivakumar, who organised special coaching sessions and mock tests for students of government and aided schools over the past few months.salem and thoothukudi districts secured the second and third spots respectively. the districts of nilgiris, ranipet, mayiladuthurai, and vellore reported the lowest number of students clearing the test.
