NHRC intervention leads to Rs 50,000 relief for child subjected to inhuman treatment in MP school

new delhi: the national human rights commission (nhrc) has ensured payment of rs 50,000 as relief to a five-year-old student who was subjected to inhuman treatment at a private school in rewa, madhya pradesh, officials said on friday.acting on the nhrc's recommendation, the madhya pradesh government disbursed the amount to the child. following notices and a conditional summons issued by the commission to the rewa district collector, it was informed that the services of the attendant involved in the incident were terminated, and the class teacher was suspended for six months, the nhrc said in a statement.according to district authorities, the class teacher had sent the child to an attendant after he had soiled his clothes. the attendant allegedly forced the boy to wash and wear the same clothes again, leading to illness. an fir has been registered under section 238 of the bharatiya nyaya sanhita (bns) and section 75 of the juvenile justice (jj) act, and an investigation is underway.the nhrc registered the case on january 23, 2025, and observed that the teacher and attendant appeared to have used force, causing mental and physical trauma to the child and humiliating him in front of his classmates.the commission reiterated that section 17 of the right of children to free and compulsory education act, 2009, prohibits subjecting any child to physical punishment or mental harassment.
